M Station Phase II Parking Garage | Precast Parking Structure Expansion – Morristown, NJ

Service Division: New Jersey

Scope of Project

The M Station Phase II Parking Garage project consisted of the installation of 348 precast concrete members as part of a horizontal expansion to an existing parking structure.

Unlike a typical parking garage project built as a standalone structure, this phase required the new garage to be integrated directly into the existing facility. To accomplish this, portions of the existing precast structure were carefully dismantled to allow the new precast components to connect seamlessly with the original structure.

Throughout the duration of the project, the existing parking garage remained fully operational, requiring careful coordination and planning during the construction process.

The precast components for the expansion were fabricated by High Concrete Group and erected by Precast Services Inc. in close coordination with the general contractor, Barr & Barr

Amid the complexity of expanding an active parking structure, restricted site access, and ongoing operational requirements, the team successfully installed all 348 precast components through detailed coordination and efficient execution.

Obstacles Uncovered or Noteworthy Contributions

The M Station Phase II expansion presented several challenges that required careful coordination between all project partners.

Horizontal Expansion of an Existing Structure

Unlike a typical precast parking structure installation, this project required a horizontal expansion tied directly into an existing garage. Portions of the existing precast structure had to be dismantled to allow the new precast components to integrate with the existing facility

Operational Facility During Construction

The existing parking garage remained fully operational throughout the duration of the expansion, requiring careful coordination to ensure construction activities did not disrupt normal operations.

Tight Site Constraints

The project site presented extremely tight site constraints, requiring detailed planning and collaboration among the erection team, fabricator, and general contractor to ensure the installation proceeded efficiently.

Project Outcome

Despite the logistical challenges associated with integrating the new structure into the existing garage and working within tight site conditions, the project team successfully executed the installation of the 348 precast components.

Through close coordination among all project partners, the expansion was completed while maintaining schedule and precision throughout the installation process.
